| Trim Tidy Towns Development Approach Plan: Overview |
|
Trim,
once the jewel in the crown in the National Tidy Towns Competition,
having won the overall national title in 1972, 1974 and 1984 – a feat
unparalleled by any other town in the history of the competition had in
recent years, due to the passage of time from one generation to the
next and the impact of developments, required to meet the demand of a
satellite town of the capital, failed to attain the standard of
excellence now required to achieve the highest accolade in the town
category and the overall national award.
The Yellow Steeple
The 2004 Trim Tidy Towns Committee has introduced new blood and
with a balance of experience and youthful enthusiasm it is now
embarking on an ambitious programme, in association with numerous local
agencies and community groups, that will see Trim return to its former
glory.

| The Historical, Present And Future Currently Impacting On Trim And Our Plan |
Trim – a medieval heritage town – with the Europa Nostra Award Winning Castle at its “brave heart”.
The mystical river, An Boinne (Boyne) that meanders its way through
the town, plays a huge part in developing the wildlife and natural
amenities of our plan.
The Porch Fields with its numerous medieval religious monuments,
recently purchased by the Local Authority and now being transferred to
the ownership of An Duchas to be forever maintained as a local amenity
is unique in the heart of any Irish town.
The designation of Trim under the Town Renewal Programme has
resulted in major town centre development, which will continue to
impact on our town throughout the life of this plan. |

| 2004 Adjudication Report Analysis |
Overall Development Approach.
Considering we submitted a 5 year development approach for the first
time and it received very favourable comments in the report, it was
disappointing to achieve a mark of 34 out of 50, an increase of only 3
points. The supply of a map of the town centre for 2005 is
noted....
